One of my favorite summer actives is picking fresh juicy blackberries.
I have been craving a sweet summer pie so I convinced my family to go picking with me. We went to the spot by our old home where we use to walk almost daily.
If you are a local Dragoon Gulch Trail is an awesome spot.
But be cautious when picking any berries or harvesting in the wild. My sister and her kids ran into a giant rattle snake the following day at this same spot. If you have a good dog it might be a wise idea to bring it. I don't want to scare anyone just remind them that yes we do live in a place where wild animals are common.
All of the kids did their fair share of picking but most of the berries they picked ended up in their mouths. I loved all of their purple lips.
Here is the picking crew minus Ryden and I.
My sister in law and her family are moving back home from the bay area. We are so excited to have them here with us. She mentioned how this was something they would never do in the city; load into the car and go blackberry picking.
The following morning Violet and I set out to start our dessert until the power went out on us.
She loves being in the kitchen. One day she will be a better cook than me.
After the power came back on we were able to turn the oven on, not sure how smart that was in this heat. When Jason got home we ended the evening with dessert on the patio. The pie turned into more of a cobbler but was delicious.
Lots of special moments stored up.
Do you have a favorite blackberry recipe? If so I would love for you to share it with me. I am currently trying to master pie crust. Goals are good right. Especially ones that involve healthy clean desserts that can be shared over conversations and laughter.
