Homemade Play-dough

Today we made homemade play-dough to occupy some of our time inside as the weather outside is a bit chilly.  Ryden is learning to recognize his letters and we are working on his name too, so we incorporating this into our play dough activity.  Here is a simple recipe I found online although I had to be creative when it came to the food coloring because I did not have any on hand.  Plain beige play dough probably would have worked fine but I looked in the fridge and did notice some beets that could help me out in this situation.  I simply peeled and cut up the beets and added them to the 3 cups of water the recipe called for.  The play dough came out pink so if you would rather have red I would leave the beets in a little longer,  I left them in for about ten minutes. Here is the recipe:

3 cups of flour
1.5 cups of salt
6 tsp. cream of tarter
3 tbsp. oil
3 cups of water

Continually mix ingredients together over medium heat until it balls up into one big piece of play dough. This step took about 5- 10 minutes.  Let cool and then store in a air tight container or zip lock bag after playing with it.

Have a HAPPY day.

              Love Apryle
